As for the mistake you picked up on, I was looking for inspiration from other forums lol

Frankly I think this car is going to bomb, its under powered, overpriced and looks naff too. I use to own an A2 and loved it, but this thing hasn't even got any room. An S-Line 1.6 Diesel, wow ...not. The Audi people need to get real, £10k is too much for this little hatch, let alone £15k with plastic trims.

I gotta say that I think the A1 will be a roaring success. I always laugh when A2 owners say they love them. I work in an Audi dealer and think the A2 was well over priced for what it was. I think it was the worst car Audi ever made, the salesmen, techs, and pretty much anyone who I spoke to in other centres hated them too.

The initial engines they first release in cars are never going to set the world on fire. There will be more engines available later in its life. They have the 2.0 tdi 140hp common rail tdi in the Seat Ibiza which shares the same chassis as the A1. When the Ibiza was released it had an even worse engine choice than the A1.

I might of offended a few people with my harsh A2 comments but I just think the A1 is so much better looking and will handle much better. As for bombing I think the pre-orders will be more than the A2 sold in its short 5yr life span. 5yrs too long if you ask me.lol

I am looking forward to getting this little car.....I will try to respond to the points that you have made:

1) Underpowered: How do you know its underpowered? Have you driven it? The 1.6TDI A3 hits 0-60 with the same engine in 11.7 seconds. The A1 weighs less so I doubt it will be underpowered.

2) OVERPRICED!!!!!! Ha Ha Ha - A Focus Style TDCI is £19,584.00 - CASE CLOSED!

3) Looks naff? You used to own a A2 - CASE CLOSED!

4) No Room: It doesn't have any room? Again, how do you know? Have you been in one?

And as for

What he said! i dont know why people are comparing the A1 and the A2 anyway. Surly if the A1 was supposed to be a newer version aimed at the same market they would have called it the A2.

Oh dear have a put a few noses out of joint.
1. Look at the 0-60 figures on other sites. Why pay performance figures for what will be a noddy car with oversized grill.
2. Overpriced....I don't know where you're buying your Fords from???
3. I didn't buy a brand new A2 and I certainly didn't buy it for its looks, I'm not comparing it to an A1, you are
4. The cars is less than four metres long with a 3 metre bonnet, have a look on the YouTube, there's a weirdo German guy in a cord jacket trying to explain why the window height is sexy.

MrSensible what you are stating there is a matter of opinion which you have yours which is fair enough and I'm sure there are others who will agree with you.

Unfortunately you won't find any of those people on here. I gather this is a forum for fans, which clearly you are not. It leaves the question in the nicest possible way, why are you on here?

Its like paying your money to go a concert and abusing the band for not liking their music, even though you knew you didn't like them before you went.

Well said that man.

He is quite obviously interested in the car otherwise he wouldn't have bothered signing up to the forum. Also researching it on youtube.

Im sure he is going to be first in the order book come May

Once again I will respond to your points in turn...

1. I am not interested in 0-60, however the 1.6TDi S-Line will be adequate for what I want...I do 20,000 miles a year and the performance isn't my sole choice for selection. The A1 is going to have very low tax contribution and I will enjoy having a quality little car on my drive. (Next to my quality big car - 08 1.8T A4 Cabriolet)

2. Try Ford uk list price - my company purchases cars based on list price and thats the list price of a Focus Style TDCi.

3. So why did you buy an A2? What was your purchase criteria?

4. Did you measure it when you took it out on a test drive and declared it to be a failure? My missus has the new Ibiza which has an identical floorpan...this car is spacious and really refined on the road and doesnt have a 3m front....and neither does the Polo - Therefore I think you are wrong.

I dont see the point of turning up on forums and trying to entice people into a huge argument as to what car is better etc etc, if you dont like the A1 then dont buy one.....I dont like the new 7 series but you dont see me joining a forum and going on about how I dont like it etc.

Going back to play MW2 now......anyone play PS3 MW2 BTW - Audi A1 Net clan!!!!

Thank you to the people on this forum who are supporting our brand - in official responce to the above users 'opinions' I have the following views:

1) Plastic trims - you will find that nearly every new car has plastic trims, even if they look and feel like metal - this is safety related and not quality related. The EU is very strict - you will note that even the petrol flap on a TT looks and feels like metal, but is actually an Audi patented cold-touch plastic
2) £10K does not buy you a new mini, so why would it buy you a new Audi that has more technology, more standard features, better looks (in my opinion) and is more practical.
3) The car is unlikely to 'bomb' when all of the centres have over double the amount of orders than it is actually able to place.
4) You will find that it's performance figures are very favourable when compared to any rival car and other engines will be coming soon including eventually the 1.8T in the S1. The launch engines are designed to be that - launch engines
5) The looks were enough to convince many to purchase one before they even saw prices and won the A1 several awards including 'the most exciting car of 2010'. I personally don't like small cars, but am ordering one - I am that convinced!
6) My biggest point - space... On a recent trip for MD's of Audi dealers, our MD (well built) sat in the front of an A1 and the sat in the back 'without comedy contortion'. You will note that on one of my recent blogs (pooleaudi.blogspot.com) I detailed how with the seats folded down the boot capacity of the A1 is 920litres - the same as the new Vauxhall Meriva MPV with the back seats folded down! Even with the seats in normal position the boot is massive when compared to rivals, such as the Mini.

So us 'Audi people' have got real! and that, my friends and loyal customers is why the Audi A1 really is "the next big thing from Audi"

The front and rear seats (appear to me anyway) to be set further back than other cars I've been comparing it with.
My current car (Clio) is shorter overall than the A1 but the internal length from boot to back of the front seats is noticeably longer.
Depends what each person's planning on carrying I guess.
